Getting to your local spa might not be the easiest thing to do right now. But don’t despair; you can still look great with ingredients found in your home. This homemade face mask recipe will leave your face feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

There are so many nourishing vitamins and minerals that are found in fruits and vegetables: vitamin C in strawberries and tomatoes; bananas contain plenty of potassium; carrots contain antioxidants like vitamins A and K which limit the production of free radicals. That's why I always reach for fruits and veggies when I'm making my homemade face masks.

My Moisturizing Homemade Face Mask For Glowing Skin

It’s so easy for the skin to start lacking hydration and nutrients, especially when we’re feeling stressed. That’s why I love to pamper my skin every now and then with a good face mask.

But the prices can start to add up when you have to invest in professional beauty treatments and products on the regular. Instead of breaking the bank, whenever I want to indulge in an at-home spa experience, I turn to my kitchen.

This homemade face mask is great if your skin is feeling dry or needs a little bit of exfoliation. I use avocado, mango, coconut oil, aloe vera, and a couple of drops of Roman chamomile essential oil. Let’s take a closer look at these ingredients.

Avocados are extremely hydrating. They are packed with skin-friendly minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, copper, magnesium, vitamins A, E, B and K, and essential fatty acids that help soothe and moisturize your dry skin barrier.

There’s nothing refreshing like eating a juicy mango on a hot summer day. Who knew that they could also work wonders for the skin? They contain extremely high levels of beta carotene, vitamin C, and natural fruit acids, which are natural, gentle exfoliators.

Coconut oil, especially when it’s cold-pressed and extra virgin, is a great addition to my face mask recipe. It contains lauric acid which makes it naturally antibacterial and antifungal. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe your skin and is an excellent moisturizer for dry skin.

Aloe vera is rich in enzymes, antioxidants, and vitamins A and C. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it’s popular in the treatment of acne, burns, and dry skin. Aloe vera also has a moisturizing and anti-aging effect, which is believed to minimize the formation of lines and wrinkles.

Finally, my game-changing ingredient is Roman chamomile essential oil. This oil helps decrease redness, reduce inflammation, and calm down irritated skin. Its antioxidant properties ward off free radicals that steal oxygen from healthy skin cells, making them look dull and lifeless. It also helps to balance the production of sebum on the skin, which is great for those with oily skin.

How To Make My DIY Avocado and Mango Face Mask

Making this face mask is really quick and easy. Add the fresh avocado, ripe mango purée and coconut oil to a small bowl. I prefer to use fresh aloe vera straight from the plant instead of the bottled variety because I want as high a percentage of pure aloe as possible.

My aloe vera leaves are from Basil Bandwagon, which is my local organic grocery store, but you should be able to find them at your local grocery store. Harvesting the gel from your aloe vera leaf is pretty simple.

Use a large, sharp knife to cut the base off the leaf. You may also want to remove the pointed tip and the serrated edges. Use a smaller sharp knife or vegetable peeler to remove the thin outer layer from the leaf, revealing the clear jelly-like substance inside. Use the knife or a spoon to gently scoop out the gel.

After adding a couple of drops of the Roman chamomile essential oil, mash everything together using a fork. You can also use a blender or a food processor. Once everything is well mixed, use a silicone face mask brush or your fingers to apply the mask to your face and neck. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water.

Tips And Tricks When Using Homemade Face Masks

1. Always Do A Patch Test First

It is best to do a quick patch test to see how your skin will react to your homemade mask and if you could be allergic to some of the ingredients used. Test an area that is out of sight, like the side of your neck.

2. Don’t Apply Certain Ingredients Without Pre-Mixing First

Ingredients like lemons and apple cider vinegar can make your skin sensitive to light and could possibly cause skin bleaching, so avoid putting them directly on to your kin without pre-mixing them in safe quantities with other ingredients.

3. Don’t Use Spoiled Ingredients

Step away from that tub of yogurt that’s been in your fridge for ages. If you wouldn’t eat it, then it’s probably not a good idea to slather it all over your face.

4. Use The Mask As Soon As Possible

Because your homemade mask is made using fresh ingredients and doesn’t contain any preservatives, it can go bad very quickly once it’s exposed to air. This can easily irritate your skin. Play it safe and use it within an hour of mixing.
