Overnight French Toast

Overnight Eggnog French Toast is the perfect way to make a tasty and satisfying breakfast with minimal effort. Simply prepare the night before and slow cook in the morning. In just minutes, you’ll have a hot and hearty meal that is perfect for holiday breakfast or brunch.

What is French Toast?

It’s a classic breakfast dish that consists of bread dipped in eggs and milk and fried in butter or oil. It can be served as is, topped with syrup, powdered sugar, nutmeg, or other toppings to taste. It is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dinner.

While french toast is normally made with cream, I am making my crock pot french toast casserole with eggnog.

What is Eggnog?

Eggnog is a classic holiday drink that is made with eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. It is seasoned with nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices. It is traditionally served cold but can also be made hot.

Can You Make French Toast with Eggnog

I love baking and cooking with eggnog. If you didn’t think of eggnog for breakfast, you are missing out. The eggnog adds an amazing flavor to the breakfast. We also add it to cranberry eggnog breakfast bake. The eggnog is replacing the cream to make the custard.

What is Eggnog French Toast Casserole Made in the Crockpot

This crockpot french toast casserole is made with cubed french bread and eggnog. It is seasoned with nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices. The casserole is cooked in the slow cooker for several hours until it’s tender and golden brown on top. It can be served as-is or topped with your favorite toppings such as syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

What if Someone Doesn’t Like Eggnog?

If you find that you want to make this but someone doesn’t like eggnog, you can replace it. I know that seems funny since this is a slow cooker eggnog french toast, but you can get a lot of the flavor without the eggnog. Use milk or half and a half and add an additional egg along with a touch more sugar. Bring in the flavors by adding nutmeg and cinnamon and it seems like you made french toast with eggnog, but without the eggnog.

What is the Best Kind of Bread to use for Eggnog French Toast?

You want bread that will hold up to the custard in this casserole. When making french toast casserole, I find that good quality dense white bread works best. If you don’t have access to this type of bread, brioche or challah would work as well.
