Hold onto your helmets, DC fans! Pierce Brosnan, the suave actor known for his portrayal of James Bond, has sparked a wave of excitement by hinting at a possible return to the DC universe as Doctor Fate. Could we see him again in the upcoming Superman reboot? Let's dive in!
Brosnan, who played the mystical Kent Nelson (Doctor Fate) in the 2022 film Black Adam, recently shared his thoughts in an interview with GQ. He revealed he's open to reprising the role, stating he enjoyed the character's philosophy. This is great news for fans who were captivated by his performance!
But here's where it gets interesting: Brosnan mentioned rumors of Doctor Fate potentially getting his own show or appearing in the new Superman movie. This isn't just wishful thinking, either. Director James Gunn has already hinted at Doctor Fate's presence in the DC universe reset. In fact, Gunn mentioned a Hall of Justice mural in Superman that may include Doctor Fate.
And this is the part most people miss... Gunn's vision for the new DC universe is ambitious, with Superman slated for a July 9, 2027 release. The film will star David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Gunn has also teased that some characters in the mural might be explored in future projects. DC is already gearing up for Supergirl, set to release on June 26, 2026, and Clayface, which is expected to premiere on September 11, 2026.
Controversially, the first DC movie to cross the $300M mark at the domestic box office since 2022’s The Batman was Superman. This signals a potential turning point for the franchise.
