Baked Twisted Bacon Recipe

My teenagers always like to keep me updated with the latest food trends on TikTok. I can be a little skeptical sometimes, but every now and then a trend comes along that I actually really like! This twisted bacon is just that! It’s easy, it’s delicious, and the twisted shape adds a subtle change in texture to a classic breakfast side. And if you’re wanting more easy and delicious breakfast recipes, find my full list here!

My favorite things about this twisted bacon are that it’s super easy to make and mess-free! No need to fry in oil or keep checking to see if it’s cooked through. All you have to do is twist, lay your bacon out on a pan, and then pop it in the oven! It’s so hands-off but turns out perfectly crispy and delicious every time! Serve it as a quick and easy snack or alongside my tried and true scrambled eggs for a breakfast the whole family will love!

Everything You Need to Make It

Nothing fancy needed here! All this method requires is your favorite bacon, a baking sheet, and a little aluminum foil!

  • Bacon: I used regular bacon here, but feel free to experiment with different flavors and thicknesses!
  • Baking Sheet: This recipe makes a lot of bacon, so be sure to use a baking sheet large enough to accommodate it all!
  • Aluminum Foil: I like to line my baking sheet with a layer of aluminum foil to help the bacon crisp up nicely and catch excess grease. (It also makes for an easy cleanup!)

How to Make Twisted Bacon

Twisted bacon is beyond easy to make and I love that it’s mess-free! Pan-frying bacon can be a little tedious, that’s why this method and using an air fryer are my new go-tos! It makes preparing breakfast a breeze.

  1. Preheat Oven: First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Twist Bacon, Add to Pan: Twist the bacon tightly. Place them closely on the baking sheet so they don’t unravel.
  3. Bake: Cook for 20 minutes. Flip and cook an additional 10-15 minutes until the bacon has reached the desired crispiness.

Tips and Variations

Customize and perfect your twisted bacon with these easy tips and tricks! It’s so tasty, you won’t want bacon any other way. Thanks, TikTok!

  • Cook One Layer at a Time: Don’t worry about spacing out your bacon too much. You need your twists to be close together so they don’t unravel. Just make sure you only cook one layer at a time! If you stack your bacon it may not cook through properly.
  • Different Flavors: To jazz up your twisted bacon, try sprinkling a little lemon pepper, Cajun, or Italian seasoning on top before baking!
  • Serve With: These bacon twists are the perfect shape for dipping! Try serving them with honey mustard, ranch, or BBQ sauce!

Storing Leftovers

We’ve all been there, your eyes were bigger than your stomach and you made too much bacon. Good news is, your twisted bacon can be stored and used for a quick snack or in other dishes! Crumble it to add on top of a wedge salad, or throw it in bacon cheeseburger soup!

  • In the Refrigerator: Store leftover twisted bacon in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 5 days.
  • To Reheat: You can reheat your bacon in the microwave for 30 seconds or until warm, or pop it in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 400 degrees F.

FAQs

What is the secret to perfect bacon? ›

1: Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, and lay out as many bacon strips as will fit snuggly without overlapping. 2: Place in a cold oven. Then heat the oven to 400 degrees F and bake to desired crispness, 25 to 35 minutes. 3: Drain well on a paper-towel-lined platter.

How do restaurants make perfect bacon? ›

They cook it the best way possible, on a sheet pan in the oven. The bonus is while it takes longer to make this way, you can make more at once, the pieces are more or less flat and they come out crispy. Or they throw it in the deep fryer once it's done.

Why does restaurant bacon taste so good? ›

The secret is pre-cooking your bacon

Regardless of the perfect meat-to-fat ratio and peak freshness, the real secret to diner-worthy bacon is the cooking method. According to Epicurious, par-cooking it in the oven is the preferred method of many restaurant owners.

Why do chefs add water to bacon? ›

Why Does Cooking Bacon in Water Work? The addition of water keeps the initial cooking temperature low and gentle, so the meat retains its moisture and stays tender as the fat renders. Plus, since the water helps render the fat, there will be significantly less splatter as your bacon finishes in the pan.

Why doesn't homemade bacon get crispy? ›

Let your bacon sit at room temperature for fifteen minutes or so before you cook it. It will help the fat render more quickly, so it will be crispy and not burnt.

How does Martha Stewart make bacon? ›

Bake the bacon in a 400°F oven until well-browned and crisp, this should take between 15 and 18 minutes depending on the thickness of your bacon. To follow Martha's method to a T, you'll need to rotate the sheet pan halfway through.

How does Trisha Yearwood cook bacon in the oven? ›

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking pan with 3 layers of foil.
  2. Arrange the bacon on the prepared baking pan in a single layer, then sprinkle evenly with the sugar and pepper. Bake until well browned, 35 to 40 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve.

Why do chefs cook bacon in the oven? ›

Cooking bacon in the oven can help you achieve evenly crisp bacon slices to prevent burnt ends and chewy and raw middles.

Does sprinkling flour on bacon make it crispy? ›

The starch soaks up the grease from the bacon, helping it to stay rigid and maintain its shape. Overall, I would say the flour method is the best way to get the crispiest oven-baked bacon and I'll definitely be using this hack again.

How do Americans get their bacon crispy? ›

Side bacon has much more fat on it. Uncooked or undercooked fat is not well-appreciated by Americans. As a result, they tend to cook it longer, to render much of the fat out. This leaves the bacon crispy.

What is the secret to crispy bacon? ›

Put the bacon in a non-stick frying pan in a single layer. Top with another heavy pan or frying pan that fits snugly into the pan on top of the bacon. If it's not very heavy, top with another pan, or anything heatproof and weighty. Fry on a medium-low heat for 10-15 mins until golden and super-crispy.

How do you get the most grease out of bacon? ›

How to Render Bacon Fat. At risk of stating the obvious, you render bacon fat by first cooking bacon. The trick is to cook the bacon slowly, on medium-low heat. I do this on the stovetop in a cast-iron pan, because cast iron retains heat and helps you cook bacon more evenly.

Why does cooking bacon in water make it crispier? ›

According to Dawn Perry, Real Simple's food director, cooking bacon in water could keep it tender on the inside while still crisp on the outside. How? The bacon fat would render into the water. Once the water evaporates, the bacon would crisp in its own fat.
